Daily Inspection and Cleaning
Regularly inspect the cable's exterior, paying particular attention to any cracks, wear, or corrosion in the sheath. Minor damage may cause signal leakage or water ingress and requires prompt attention. Use a dry, soft cloth to wipe away surface dirt; avoid using corrosive solvents. Remove oxide and dust from connectors, and use a specialized cleaner if necessary to prevent increased contact resistance.
Proper Installation and Fixing
During installation, avoid excessive bending or twisting of the cable. The bend radius must not be less than the manufacturer's recommended value (usually at least 10 times the cable diameter), as this may cause the internal conductor to break. Use specialized clamps for fixings, and avoid bundling metal wires directly to prevent damage to the insulation. In hot, humid, or dusty environments, it is recommended to install protective sleeves or sealed connectors.
Regular Testing and Replacement
Use a vector network analyzer (VNA) to test the cable's standing wave ratio (VSWR) and insertion loss. If these indicators are outside the normal range (e.g., VSWR > 1.2 or loss increases significantly), identify the fault. Even if a cable appears to be in good condition after long-term use, its internal insulation may degrade due to aging. It is recommended to evaluate and replace the cable every 3-5 years if necessary.
Storage and Transportation
Unused cables should be coiled and stored in a cool, dry place, away from pressure and high temperatures. Maintain a natural curvature when coiling to prevent deformation of the internal structure. Use original packaging or shock-absorbing materials during transportation to minimize vibration and impact on the connector.
Proper maintenance can significantly extend the life of RF cables, ensure signal transmission quality, and reduce system maintenance costs.
