Working Principle

 

The principle of a quarter-wave arrester is based on the law of electromagnetic induction. When an electric field exists between a lightning cloud and the ground, an induction coil forms between the ground and the cloud. These coils receive charge from the cloud, generating a current that draws the charge to the ground.

The RF coaxial surge protector plays a crucial role in this process. Its lightning rod generates an electric field whose direction and magnitude are opposite to the electric field received by the induction coil. Consequently, the electric fields of the lightning rod and the induction coil cancel each other out, reducing the current in the induction coil and drawing the charge to the ground.
