SMA Connector to PCB Connection Methods

 

1. Direct Plug Connection

‌Precise Positioning and Insertion‌: Align the direct plug SMA plug with the pre-designed mounting holes on the PCB. Insert gently and slowly, ensuring that each pin of the plug is precisely aligned with the mounting hole. Avoid applying excessive force during insertion to avoid bending the plug pins or damaging the mounting holes on the PCB.

‌Securely Secure the Pins‌: Use tweezers to carefully bend the plug pins slightly so that they fit snugly on the PCB. This ensures the plug remains stable and prevents any movement during soldering, ensuring a high-quality soldering process.

‌Precise Soldering‌: Preheat the soldering iron to 300°C-350°C. Apply a small amount of flux to the contact point between the pin and the PCB. Then, use solder wick to solder the pin to the PCB pad. During soldering, strictly control the time and temperature, keeping each pin soldering for 2-3 seconds to prevent cold solder joints, short circuits, or damage to the PCB due to excessive temperatures or prolonged soldering. After soldering is complete, trim any excess pins neatly with wire cutters.

2. Surface Mount Connection

Preheating and Soldering: Surface mount SMA connectors require soldering in a reflow oven. The preheat temperature should be controlled between 150°C and 200°C to ensure the solder fully melts and forms a good connection. Avoid overheating during soldering to prevent damage to the connector or PCB.
